Brief:

Design a double page spread for a children's picture book and illustrate any part of the story that you wish. Ensure you have appealing and engaging characters and environments.

Approach:

I wanted to make slight twists to the traditional story of The Ugly Duckling. I wanted it set at night, to offer a moodier color palette and made the swan pink. I implemented rough, pastel-like textures to create more visual interest.

Result:

An atmospheric environment that puts readers into the scene where the bird first sees its reflection.
